Re: “The Revisionist: Behold Vanessa Redgrave, Eighth Wonder of the World

You're not alone, Tennesse Williams said it decades ago. Personally, I can't think of another actor - male or female - who is more versatile. She goes from doing Shakespeare and Chekhov on stage to then making Art House films like Blow Up and Isadora. Gives us scene stealing turns in summer blockbusters like Mission Impossible and Deep Impact then transports us to the past in with her performances in Period dramas like Howards End and The Bostonians. Sbe is truly a limitless actress and I can't think of anyone who can match her today in the English speaking theatre. Formidable actress.

Re: “Punching a War Horse in the Mouth

Interesting. I saw War Horse last night in Boston, presumably on a continuation of this US tour. I'm British, and originally saw the show in London, where it was out-of-this-world amazing. Totally agreed with you about it being a little overplayed and sentimental here. It got a bit WW1 101, but I think this is because they were working with a slightly different script. I imagine it was adapted for an American audience not necessarily steeped in the intricacies of British World War history (stuff about the Somme any Brit would know already etc). The accents were poor, and the comedy of the British wartime cliches a little wearing. See it in London, by the finest of British actors. I think your mind will be changed.

Re: “We Are the Knights Who Say "Motherfucker": Kenneth Lonergan's Medieval Play

The play was TERRIBLE. I left after the first act which I thought would never end.
