This list (and many many in written in the same vein) completely ignores that there exists a HUGE chunk of Brooklyn south of all these trendy areas. Where is Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Marine Park, Flatlands...etc? The truly affordable and diverse areas are totally neglected, even though they fit the criteria of this list much better than many of those mentioned.
All these complaints about lack of greenspace...you want greenspace? Check out suburban Long Island (god forbid though, it's totally uncool)...Brooklyn isn't meant to be some kind of utopia where you can have it all...it's an urban city, and a very densely populated one at that.
...and what's up with the artsy fartsy pictures, why not show some actual pictures of the neighborhoods? That would seem like the intuitive thing to do, no? This makes Brooklyn out to be a very very homogenous clusterfuck of scenesters and pretentious artists.
TLDR: I've lived in Brooklyn my whole life and this list just outright sucks.
The van Oxley was driving was a company vehicle, maybe the company should be held liable for allowing him to drive a company vehicle on a suspended license. Oops, there is a thought. Maybe the family should go after the company that allowed him to drive their vehicle while on a suspended license.
You're right. The only one who should tell me what to put on my tits is you, for I am an ignorant fool who can't make her own choices. DIAF.
I would call that elevator a lot of things—heavy? imposing? showoffy?—but I'm not sure that rickety would be one of them. I've stayed in two rooms at the Gladstone, the better of which had a really great photo in the bathroom of a squirrel shooting lasers out of its eyes. I've been meaning to find out who did it for, um, four months now.
Kirsch didn't mention the Carlton Arms art hotel on 25th and Third Ave near Baruch College... that's a real quirky "art hotel." Worth mentioning.

She is a total no talent... kinda like an African American Bonnie Franklin!
She also needs to lose about 45 lbs!
Were you present for the whole tribute? Temple's set just seems to be the first you saw, as both Adam Schatz and Low Anthem surpassed his contributions (at least to me).
Not good enough to be a meaningful film ad not bad enough to become a cult classic. This movie is just trivial and boring.
There are a million words that are used for emphasis. We don't need another.
How are people supposed to express this idea now? "I non-figuratively ran into the wall"?
It is pure ambiguity to allow its use both ways. If it can mean, "non-figuratively" and also be used for emphasis, than there is no way to know what the word means in any given context.
"I literally walked on the moon". "Wow, were you an astronaut"? "No, of course not, I was just using the word for emphasis." How absurd, and figuratively stupid.
Spare is a terrible way to describe his prose, I think it's the polar opposite of spare, all meat, no bone....
One of the best waterproofing material is made from bamboo & polyester. It has high volume absorption while not being wet on the surface and it's machine washable. It is particulrly useful in the protection of furnishings and carpets. We've had 20 years experience of water sporting and have found this material to be the best, so far.
...a great American story teller.
I haven't used the grocery store in the Atlantic Center, but Target does have great prices on a few staples.
The "War on Marijuana" has been a complete and utter failure. It is the largest component of the broader yet equally unsuccessful "War on Drugs" that has cost our country over a trillion dollars.
Instead of The United States wasting Billions upon Billions of more dollars fighting a never ending "War on Marijuana", lets generate Billions of dollars, and improve the deficit instead. It's a no brainer.
The Prohibition of Marijuana has also ruined the lives of many of our loved ones. In numbers greater than any other nation, our loved ones are being sent to jail and are being given permanent criminal records which ruin their chances of employment for the rest of their lives, and for what reason?
Marijuana is way safer, and healthier to consume than alcohol. Yet do we lock people up for choosing to drink?
Marijuana is the safest and healthiest recreational substance known to man, with many wonderful medical benefits as well.
Even The President of the United States himself has used marijuana. Has it hurt his chances at succeeding in life? If he had gotten caught by the police during his college years, he may have very well still been in jail today! Beyond that, he would then be fortunate to even be able to find a minimum wage job that would consider hiring him with a permanent criminal record. Let's end this hypocrisy now!
The government should never attempt to legislate morality by creating victim-less "crimes" because it simply does not work and costs the taxpayers a fortune.
Marijuana Legalization Nationwide is an inevitable reality that's approaching much sooner than prohibitionists think and there is nothing they can do to stop it!
Legalize Nationwide! Support Each and Every Marijuana Legalization Initiative!
/The Road/ is "spare, action-describing prose sometimes interrupted with dialogue"? Really? From the NYTimes review: On the Interstate “long lines of charred and rusting cars” are “sitting in a stiff gray sludge of melted rubber. ... The incinerate corpses shrunk to the size of a child and propped on the bare springs of the seats. Ten thousand dreams ensepulchred within their crozzled hearts.” Just sayin'.
I think he does a good job of juxtaposing the love/savagery in order to fully appreciate the extremes of both, leaving one gratefull for love.
Well, if that's all you got it's only mildly violent compared to Blood Meridian, a book that's arguably the best work of 20th Century American literature.
