Re: “The Year in Music: Observations and Value Judgments

re: The Cheap and Dishonest Redefinition of "Best New Music": thurston moore, bill callahan, etc did technically release "new" music, but they are well-established acts at this point. they don't need to be "championed" "in the one way that really matters" -- as if a rave review from pitchfork doesn't matter? please.

re: Post-everything, the Ultimate Importance of Taste: there is no such thing as taste "post-everything".

re: the rest of the article: yawn.

Re: “The Top 25 Albums of 2011

Good album but his vocals are super thin. He barely gets away with being a singer. Honey Bunny is an awesome tune followed by some other solid rocking, (for a change) numbers. My biggest gripe is that My Ma is a complete 100% rip off of Factory by Band of Horses. It is uncannily similar.

Re: “11 Great Songs (Plus Three Terrible Ones) Not Sung by the Band’s Lead Singer

In fairness to Robertson, they didn't release that track with his vocals until they buried it at the end of disc 3 on a 1994 compilation, and it's clearly intended as a demo-curio.

The version everyone knows from the Last Waltz has Danko singing and sounds great.

Hello cheap shot!

Re: “11 Great Songs (Plus Three Terrible Ones) Not Sung by the Band’s Lead Singer

The Dream Syndicate's original bassist Kendra Smith sings "Too Little Too Late" on "The Days of Wine and Roses"; is one of the great unsung badass lady bassists of 80s-90s college rock; preceded Hope Sandoval in the Dave Roback project subsequently renamed Mazzy Star.

How is Mike Mills not on this list? "Near Wild Heaven" for sure.

"Blessed State" by Wire is a favorite of mine.

Re: “10 Most Ridiculous Items Raekwon Claims to Own in New Track "MTV Cribs"

This made my day. It might also make my year, as I just altered my resolution. It was, previously: Drink more water. (Seriously.) It is, now: Acquire all of this bullshit. (Maybe not so seriously. Insufficient 'enndz,' as it were.)

I think the textured walls might've floored me the most. He must have one of those historical preservation residences. Freemasons!

As for the first item, the plasma toilet, no less hilarious than its relative inscrutability (well, perhaps it incinerates fecal deposits at such high temperatures that they not only sublimate, but their miasmal traces are also immediately annihilated, the perfect gadget for someone who wants to be sure that his shit doesn't stink), is that only moments after he names that possession, he says something about 'if I gotta squeeze running outta time.'

Perhaps there's a go-go-Gadget item to take care of that?

"But it's also lacking the big Radiohead moments we've come to expect."

which "we" expecting exactly what???

Radiohead has actually consistently dazzled with the little moments.

Re: “On the Death of an Indie Show Space in Williamsburg

I am super sad to see BF go. My tip for their next space would be to separate the bar from the music performance space. Their low drink prices always made for a very chatty environment to hear live music. I know that layout isn't a problem at Cakeshop but since BF's was also a jukebox bar people just didn't know when to shut up and listen to the band on stage.
