This film is very loosely based on the book The Dibbuk Box by Jason Haxton. Haxton claims that it is a true story but the plot of the film and the story that Haxton tells are not the same thing at all. The book is available on Kobo, and if I remember correctly it was in the neighbourhood of 99ยข.
It would be unique to have Chinese doc makers come here and film the life of an inner-city fam, preferably the US-standard "single mom" and her brood, which would probably make China's citizens thankful for the way of life as they live it.
No way my friend. No connection between Tree of Life and Reygadas' work. Reygadas is telling pure violance. Malick is looking for endless peace in the deepest layer of his soul. Sry.
I doubt that the movie could be as interesting as this review.

What Ignorance! Ali won those fights fair and square and "sports betting interests" had nothing to do with it.
Your mother loks well, like a cartoon
Henry, I think this is overly harsh. Yes, the film is entirely told from the viewpoint of a particular group of folks who moved to Northside Williamsburg around 1990 and have since been mostly gentrified out. Yes, it is narrow in its perspective and does not attempt to tell the socio-economic or cultural history of Williamsburg, or the political economy of gentrification. But I still thought it a valuable contribution to the conversation on gentrification. The entire neighborhood that Su Friedrich came to love over 15+ years was demolished around her and replaced by a nightmare of hideous cheaply built condominiums. A compelling personal look at the front lines of gentrification.
Awesome review. But...Why can't you folks include where the goddamn film is SHOWING? Are you trying to distinguish yourselves by eschewing usefulness?
Where does it open?
What an insanely articulate writer!
As part of the Dunham spawn, Karpovsky is part of the Apatow spawn. As part of the Dunham/Apatow spawn, Karpovsky roots himself firmly in the narcissistic netherworld of Generation Y. If Generation Y is to be measured in entertainment value by Lena Dunham's leavings, then by all likelihood, it never should have existed. At least then, "Girls" would have never happened, and "Tiny Furniture" wouldn't have been spewed on the world in all it's nauseating splendor.
What anyone associated with Dunham can't realize is that- nobody cares. Nobody cares that they make noise. Nobody cares that characters like Karpovsky are in love with themselves. No one cares anything about them. If the Russian meteorite landed smack on top of the whole naval-gazing troupe of "Girls," or the self-loving cast of "Sleepwalk..", the biggest concern of the viewers would be whether there was wine or beer in their fridge.
What about Karpovsky's leavings in these movies makes you wonder or care about any of the characters? This entire genre is the equivalent of the Jehovah's Witness who keeps coming to your door regardless of how many times you send them away- because they're SO CONVINCED that you should love them as much as they love themselves.
Put these idiots away somewhere.
Sounds like you didn't see the movie.
Sounds like a film to glorify prescription psychotropic drugs, the same drugs every single one of the widely sensationalized mass shooters have been on, including Adam Lanza.
This article is right that many great Kiarostami films are unavailable on Region 1 DVD or Blu-Ray. Others:
