Isn't the film an autobiographical account of a novel? If so then this is merely a film adaptation of that story. The way McQueen's masterful direction of the film elicits a feeling from the viewer that they are witnessing something as it unfolds. The film (like Hunger and Shame) has an amazing way of showing the viewer something but still remaining void of opinion through it's direction. Therefore, the ethical judgement is left to the viewer, and the filmmaker's hand is only seen in recounting the story from the novel. Your critique of the work lacks so much sound criticism that I think this was merely written to get a few twitter followers. A way to go against the grain. Good for you. Basically you are critiquing a man for not making the film YOU wanted to see? Why don't you make it yourself? Critique the aesthetics, the storytelling, but it makes little sense to pass judgement on a film that's adapted from a book. I'm put off by the fact you call yourself a critic.
You do have a thorn in your side to comment on a show you have no knowledge about. Have you seen it? Are you familiar with the series of very successful films by luc bessson that the show is based on. That by the way did very well here in the states, and probably showed at your local "only for Brooklynites" movie theatre. Not to mention the jobs it creates for hundreds of New Yorkers and the revenue it provides to the borough and the city. By the way it is not a "sitcom" Your post is a reminder that the title critic is so derisive

In my defense, it works either way, & I love your stuff...
Ha - never mind, just re-read it properly for the 1st time (LOL)
I know you're an online writer, but you should use 'know' & 'now' properly if trying to be cutesy in story titles...
That someone could be pleased by my suffering to please them seems like a pretty good reason not to. I don't care for the elderly for that reason. I wonder if Gervais, who is the one true God, will be able to change my mind.
Now I'm just going to listen to "Hello in There" all day.
This just convinces me even further how repellent BDSM is. You must be mentally ill to want to like this kind of stuff. Stepping on someone's neck? Making people vomit and make them eat it? Sex with no lubricant and not even stopping when the other person is telling you there's something wrong? Sick. Absolutely vile. what animals people can be reduced to. Rape is only one step away from BDSM and it shows

Thanks for the intelligent and beautifully written article. Definitely captures my experience of her songs, her performances and her being. Her performance in San Francisco was a masterpiece, building slowly from electric guitar, to piano and back to guitar, her playing and singing gaining in precision and elegance as the evening unfolded. She began Good Woman, but the guitar was not in the right tuning, she paused to tell us that, then after a few seconds changed the chords to suit her voice and it was beautiful. Wonderful to hear her solo singing all the songs I love so much.
Knowing that most people flush with their feet, why would anyone flush with their hands?
Every time I think nobody else would get it, I realize I'm underestimating others who love Chan's music equally. That review perfectly described my own feelings - as if the writer read my mind. Recently my addiction has moved backward chronologically, and now I'm hooked again on Myra Lee and Community.
Love ya, Chan. You've been on my sleepytime playlist and running through my mind for I don't know how long. Stay right there for as long as you like.
What a great read! Music, hers in particular, has kept me here. It's been a rough year... Thank you, CP <3
