Hilary, I feel compelled to address your comment in an effort to cure your ignorance. Minimum wages have been lower back then, but so were living expenses. The minimum wage I worked for between semesters and jobs couldn't even cover monthly rent in a rough neighborhood. Hell, my first professional job could barely do that! What's more I listened to my coworkers who weren't lucky enough to get college education who have to work 2 part time jobs that occupy more than 14 hours of their day on sporatic schedules. A few decades ago, a high school drop out could work in a retail store and receive benefits and pensions. This is not the case anymore. Instead of judging an entire age group like most people do, try to put yourself in someone else' shoes. That's the problem with America these days that cause complacent policymakers to cut benefits for struggling people. FYI, I guess you can call me a "handy Millenial". I can do many things from domestic chores to fixing things. .....................your move......;)
I agree with both the review and the commenter above! The backstory is thin beyond belief but the beautiful digital mastery of the film is something to behold. the orchestration is too hollywood and absolutely drowns out the silence of space and then some, but works in other places of the film. I went in expecting nothing in particular and found myself winching as space debris floated at me and the time flew by during what was a fun and suspenseful ride. At the end (no spoiler here)...my first thought was that the plot wasn't all that hollywood after all as two very typical elements in Hollywood endings did not happen, and that made me happy too.
Franzen will be remembered in 50, 100 years from now. Pity I can't say the same for
Ms Iversen. Where Franzen clothes his thoughts in words and forces us to think for
ourselves, Iversen tosses words around like she was a puppy in a rag-doll shop. How does she manage such tours de force? It can't be easy to assemble so many words in order to say so little of worth.
Sounds like someone went in wanting to hate this film...I would ignore this review if you haven't seen the film yet. Some people can't be pleased by anything. I found the sheer beauty and pulse to this film to be staggering. At a time when global chaos seems to command every outlet of the news, it strikes me as a good thing to see the Earth from afar, take in its beauty and scope and feel the humanity between these characters that have been placed in a dire situation miles above her surface. This isn't Michael Bay blowing up cities as buxom, barely legal pin-up's twirl their hair and wait for the young stud to save them. This is a cinematic marvel for all ages.
Thanks for writing this. Really enjoyed your take on it. Reading it and listening to 2013 mix at the same time. Loving Albini's fresh take on my favourite album of all time. You pointed out a few things I may have missed
She realized she was dating a vegan Feminist pussy who threw a hissy fit watching a goddamn movie- and then wrote a review where he compared frying a cheeseburger to raping a woman.
Such a whiner should have enough money to spend on a hotel/hostel/airbnb accommodation! BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS!!! If he didn't like the first night, then he should have taken his whiny ass and his girlfriend to another place. He should just be thankful that somebody offered a safe place to sleep in and a roof over his head. Count your blessings! Gratitude is a good attitude!
Everyone uses their feet. Sorry Virginia :(
Thank you for the information. Another great post is below.
i'm glad my doorman keeps you at bay
I live in Bed Stuy and that is not at all representative of the fashion. Try mixing bright colors and patterns. Hip hop mixed with vintage cool. It seems as though the photographer got off the subway took a picture of the first person he saw and then ran back downstairs to get to the comfort of a whiter Brooklyn.
what a harsh review. I've been to Grand Ferry a few times and truly enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere. The bar was crowded and it seemed like everyone was having a great time. Also, the price point is just right... keeps the riff raff at bay. Pun intended.
I think this is an extremely unfair review. I have been to the restaurant on multiple occasions and it was nothing as you described. Not only was the food and drink excellent, but the atmosphere was as well. Not sure what kind of lonely places you frequent on Valentine's Day, but I assure you they are nothing like Grand Ferry.
You can learn the OM practice for free through this video. It gives you the basics to at least see if there's something in it for you. It does show a man/woman couple practicing and talking about their experience, but I know a lot of lesbians who do the pracyice as well. All you need is a clit and a finger, doesn't matter what gender they belong too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYohBt5AVmA
Back in the 70s I watched all the live broadcasts from the moon and I well remember some very strange comments being made by the astronauts such as 'looks like was had visitors last night' this can be googled. Fair more went on than the public will ever be allowed to know . Apollo 18 confirms the suspicions that I have had since the 70s
I got an IUD four years ago and love it! The insertion was painful, and I experienced some cramping for a few days after, but that was it! It is great if you want hormone, hassle free birth control. However, don't let your boyfriend push you into something you're not comfortable with. How would he feel if you continually pressured him to get a vasectomy?
Hey Jeff, thanks for reading. There's a lot of debate centered around those supposed "Albini mixes" before this 2013 mix; namely that they're cassette bootlegs that have transcoded out into the universe for forever. NME ran a piece comparing the Litt/Albini mixes, and I gotta say that the levels on "All Apologies" are all over the place and definitely sound like transcodes.
I gotta say, on the other 2 that are the original Albini mixes supposedly scrapped for being too punk, vocals too low, etc....sound about the same to me. Don't see what the big deal was.
He looks like a nice kid.
