This adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s classic snapshot of small-town life in the early 20th century has actors performing in and around the audience, effectively reducing the play’s already thin line between self-conscious performance and traditional theater to a mere formality. In this stripped, stylized environment, realism gives way to a timeless rumination on the difficult tensions between community and individualism, the common good and personal ambition.
