Is it us, or has "The Blakes" been used as a band name before? Seems likely, which speaks to the borrowed elements of this Seattle-based three-piece. The tradition of power-pop hooks established by all the British bands of the 60s runs deep, as does Iggy Pop's swagger, and pretty much every garage-rock signpost from the last 30 years. And you know what? They do a damn fine job of it. They're back in town after a few CMJ shows; it might be smart to see these guys now before NME gets a hold of them.
