What an interesting slant on the man the mainstream foreign football press comment on as "..amomg the greatest living football gurus" and in Spring 2006 headlined "England throw away their most successful coach in decades?".
But you may say "what does Johnny foreigner know?" so lets look at the actual statistics and facts regarding Eriksson's "failures"?
He was the motive power behind several European clubs ascent from obscurity to the highest level in their domestic leagues and in the international soccer forum.
He took on a failed England from disgrace in Euro2000 and at the start of another lack lustre qualifying round for W-Cup2002 and went on to top each of three international qualifying groups, won more international points than any other England manager in history rising to a high of FIFA No.4 world ranking and earning the current English Football Association statistical rank as England's most successful manager in history only after Sir Alf Ramsey.
The mainstream world pundits and all his ex-team players have nothing but praise and appreciation for him, the Official England supporters, main Manchester City supporters and other organisations launched massive "Save Our Sven" campaigns when they were about to lose him and his services have been constantly sought by national teams and some of the world's top domestic clubs.
It would appear to those who have actually followed his career (and ignored the lies, spin and shameful hype that a minority of media hacks have shamefully attempted to smear the man with) that Sven-Goran Eriksson's ONLY failure was ignoring the advice of his closest advisors and wider soccer insiders and taking on the "impossible" task of the political and xenophobic Mexico federation and "El Tri" squad.
"Overpaid"? Most major Premier League club coaches and Don Fabio were and are paid far more.
"Unfaithful"? Sven is a BATCHELOR and his private life is far less "scandelous" than many married American Presidents, British Prime Ministers and members of the Royal Family.
"Disloyal"? The actual transcripts from the "Fake Sheik" incident reveal polite non-commitment to the invented offer of further employment AFTER his England contract expired and all his then team read his comments about them and found them not to be critical in any way. They ALL announced their total support for him at that time!
Man City supporters cancelled their season tickets in protest at his dismissal and after THE MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON IN THREE DECADES the Blues team went on strike on the pitch at the end of the season as witnessed by the 8 - 0 defeat that marked the only major downturn in an otherwise spectacular run that saw the double against Man Utd among many highlights.
I saw the three "pundits" trying to be clever while spouting inaccurate nonsense regarding "Sven the Spoofer" and had to laugh at three minnows who never really made it trying to play the "big man" in a jealous and snide tirade against the man who has been and is still at the top of the great and beautiful game.
