Musician
I cannot begin to say how much this bothers me. Creators of the music scene in what was once the hippest neighborhood in NYC are forced out because of gentrification. I mean I guess it always has worked this way, but when I heard that neighbors were complaining about noise...like what exactly did they expect? But thanks to Zebulon for all the great music over the years...
My basic issue here is the use of the phrase "indie video"....What, pray tell, does that mean? To me, "indie" has the same applicability as "hipster", which I don't understand either....
It is interesting that SOOO many musicians in this area went to Hampshire College..Michaeld Daves for one, and Jason Bertone (bass) and Ben Swan (fiddle)..a bunch of others. Seems there are more Hampshire guys here than Berklee guys!
The last point hits home...and I am almost 100% in agreement with you, were it ANY OTHER WEEKEND besides St. Patrick's Day weekend here in NYC. I mean you can't walk around without seeing a bunch of people who can't hold their liquor on like every other streetcorner. Not that that isn't also perhaps true in Austin, but at least there people are getting drunk while listening to music, whereas here people are getting drunk just to get drunk...yuck...
I have a song, "McCarren Park", about Williamsburg....I hate to go all self promo here but if you want to check it out its on my sonicbids page. (L Mag guys if this is too self promotional just delete, am only posting here bc it is a song about a Bkln nabe)...
Now I am up for original band names as much as the next guy, but....maybe they (uhh, the last one) should have rethought that a bit? Great guitar playing, though, will earn a certain amount of forgiveness...
How can you NOT have a category for "Best Bar with Live Music"???
