Re: “Young Mr. Lincoln Needs Your Vote!

Here is my personal take on Mr. Restler:
I met him for the first time a few weeks ago.
In the heat and humidity of a particularly harsh New York City summer, Lincoln was walking from house to house, from block to block, day after day - meeting the people of our Brooklyn community.... talking to them about their concerns and their problems, ... asking them what needed to be maintained, and what needed to be improved.
I was impressed: this kind of dedication and hands-on effort is rare among aspiring politicians. Usually when they're running for something you might find them standing at a subway stop for a half-hour, handing out a few leaflets - IF you're lucky.
I was even more impressed when I checked the web and found that Lincoln Restler's position was unsalaried!
Mr. Restler has my support in Thursday's election for Democratic State Committee....because Brooklyn needs more people politics - and less machine politics.
By the way: That's NOT his photo!!!

Re: Mr. Restler:
I must admit that I did not even know that Lincoln Restler's position was unsalaried! That is, until I met Mr. Restler a few days ago, for the first time, and then checked the web. In the heat and humidity of a New York City summer, Lincoln was walking from house to house, from block to block, day after day- meeting the people of our / his Brooklyn community, and asking them about their concerns and problems. I was impressed - for I find this kind of genuine dedication, energetic interest, and hands-on effort rare among aspiring politicians. Mr. Restler has my support in the upcoming September 13th, 2012 election for Democratic State Committeeman (--which- for whatever reason, is on a Thursday, and not a Tuesday). I wish him well. Our community needs more like him. Our community is lucky to have him!

Re: “The North Brooklyn Garbage Wars

My apologies to all Young Urban Professionals anywhere and everywhere. I (above) meant to say YUPPIE. I guess I was thinking of my young lovable puppy, when I mentioned my new young lovable "yuppy" neighbors. I like the word yuppy better anyway.

Re: “The North Brooklyn Garbage Wars

RE Our neighborhood (GreenPoint/Williamsburg)
Two comments:
One:
I believe that due to redistricting, US Representative Carolyn Maloney - and correct me if I'm wrong - is going to represent BOTH GreenPoint/Williamsburg AND the Upper East Side, where she has been a vocal CRITIC of the waste transfer station planned THERE (to the detriment of GreenPointers seeking to spread the "wealth" of garbage transfer stations AWAY from GreenPoint).
If that's the case,
what SIDE will she be on NOW:
that of WEALTHIER East Siders (doners)?...or..... us poor folks, who have had to put up with disease and dirt producing garbage stations for far far too long. And who are waiting , and waiting, for the East Side Transfer Station to open, in order to reduce our long-time burdens.
Just asking.
Second:
In GreenPoint/Williamsburg we fought long and hard to shut down the belching incinerator several years ago at the foot of GreenPoint Ave. And we were successful. NOW under the guise of CALLING it a “state of the art waste-to-energy conversion facility", the city wants to dump ANOTHER INCINERATOR in GreenPoint (as your article briefly mentions).
WAKE up people:
They STILL want to make our neighborhood a dumping ground. Hey, its your lungs.
And dear new yuppy neighbors, its also the value of your new condos that they will be dumping on.
Unless we stop them.

Re: “The 50 Best Blocks in Brooklyn

By the way , in the best block "number 5": it's Franklin STREET, not Franklin Avenue...

Re: “The 50 Best Blocks in Brooklyn

With regard to one of your five best blocks (i.e. number 5. Milton Street
(between Manhattan and Franklin, Greenpoint)With the old-school Brooklyn bustle of Manhattan Avenue at one end, and the new-school hipster amenities of Franklin Avenue at the other, you have pretty much everything you need within walking distance. But considering the gorgeous, ornate old brownstones and quaint mansard-topped Victorians (with front yards!) that line Milton, we can’t imagine ever wanting to leave the block.)
My comment:
With all the noisy bars opening up on the ground floor levels of old apartment building on Franklin Street, (making life impossible for many long-time residents above and around them), this area of Franklin St. will soon become another Bedford Avenue, and I don't mean that in a good way at all. Milton Street is thankfully protected, as part of a historical district...but , with all due respect :-), I wish that your so-called "new-school hipsters", ahem, would go and ruin some OTHER neighborhood. WE WERE HERE FIRST! We restrict porn shop locations nowadays, so why no restrict the number and placement of bars (rather than the current 3 or 4 per block in places)? Better yet, locate them all in the nearby industrial areas. Artists, yes, noisy bars no. Let's KEEP Greenpoint a great place to live!
