Maybe this should be titled "Top 5 Bike Day Trips For Beginners". I ride from Long Island City to Coney Island all the time, its really not a bad trip. I also have taken some beginners to from Greenpoint to Rockaway and its totally fine trip, including one person who hadn't ridden a bike in 10 years.

DC is way to much of a conservative corporate-y area to be saying it is the new Brooklyn. Majority of the population still look like their Mom's dress them. Their interests in fun are just overpriced suburban chain-style establishments. Its the reason I left that area and moved to Brooklyn. I totally agree with "employed, beer-drinking, food-eating youths do not necessarily a hip city make".
