The traditional theory goes that "greedy real estate agents" make up new neighborhood names that sounds "cool" (NOLITA), or that presumably borrow the cashe from another neighborhood (what many have accused "East Williamsburg" of being, though that is most definitely the real name.) "But "East Bushwick" is neither a cool made up name, nor borrowed, nor adding cashe. Being further East in Brooklyn has never been very desirable. I think in this context the writer was distinguishing the area from the more "gentrified" part of Bushwich to the West near Flushing . (I live in the Eastern part of Bushwick, btw). I don't this think was an attempt to add cashe; if anything it's the opposite. I'm pretty sure greedy real estate agents are not going to pick this one up.
