I remember the hole well. My grandparents lived at 137-25 sapphire street. My grandfather collected junk in his backyard. After my grandmother died he brought the junkyard in his house. My grandfather,jasper, used to fix bicycles for the local kids in the 60s. My grandmother Mary. Had a rooming house for mental patients released from the hospital. I loved coming to Howard beach in the 60s and walking the neighborhood with my grandpa. Back then the canal was open. We stayed away from it. Except when going to my grandfathers car garage which faced the canal. Thanks for your story.
