With the arrival of spring also comes Literary Upstart, our annual short fiction competition in which the borough's best unknown writers go toe-to-toe to compete for cash, a 10-week course from Gotham Writers Workshop and a giant novelty check worth $250. Our first semi-final reading happened back in the last week of April at the gorgeously cavernous powerHouse Books in DUMBO (go there immediately and buy some books).…
