<![CDATA[The scene in the police car, when he tries to leave and the door is locked. Reading it, right away the alarm bell rang in my head. But yeah, I guess that's reading into a text? I'd add, excellent point about the kid. I thought about Joyce Carol Oates' "Where are you going..." and checked out the wiki on her inspiration for that story, - the troubled kid with a bad relationship to his stepparents, a compulsive liar, etc.

<![CDATA[I liked this story, too. Anonymous, just curious, what made you believe the cop was the killer? For some reason I didn't come to that conclusion.

<![CDATA[You know I liked this because, ironically, for all the lies on the surface, this story seemed to tell the truth. The inner life of the kid and social milieu, it really rang true. I read it twice, and I liked it even better on second thought. The cop really is the killer, there really is a leopard in the woods, and world is more dangerous than we think.
