I enjoyed this review more than the film although you should have also made the point that good food, like good sex, like good creative activity, like good friends, good work in general, good marriages, good sport, good parent children children parent relations is always better than bad and great when you have them all and rotten when you do not! Most creative geniuses stuff up the rest of their lives though, do they not?

Henry, picking up on your comment that Streep should be left on Auto-Oscar for the rest of her career, I've figured out what we should do now that Blockbluster season is over: "Auto-Oscar the News."

It would be like "Auto-Tune the News," except with the C-Span and evening news clips tweaked to sound like dramatic, Oscar-baiting plots spliced with commentary from Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, George Clooney, etc. movies.

Henry: I don't agree that the film positions cooking as a kind of second place to child bearing. The one thing the film did masterfully, I think, was to show that food is really THAT GOOD.
