That was a quote from Chris Hedges's book, check out this interview on NPR from 2002: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p… He's pretty outspoken anti-war, check out his columns, just google his name.

jegs- I think you might be wrong and that was the same kid, although your interpretation might have made more sense as far as that scene...

Also anyone notice similarities between this movie and The War Lover?

I can't tell you how relieved I am to read this considering how many critics groups are awarding Best Picture to The Hurt Locker.

It's a well-crafted film and excellent in parts, but I didn't find the depth I'd been anticipating from it.

You are not watching closely..(spoiler alert) The kid he killed who you claimed is not dead is really dead. The second kid selling DVDs looked a bit like the first but you can see and hear they are different kids..Hence, the lead actor's dismayed reaction when he see another innocent kid.

Another difference is that the average filmgoer does not derive pleasure from placing a film within its director's oeuvre, because the average filmgoer only very rarely has any idea who directed the movie he's watching.

The average filmgoer may have some vague notion that this is the same lady what made Point Break, but certainly won't do as we did--especially here at the L where we talked about Bigelow in a review and a video and a separate essay--and find the film fascinating for the ways in which even its flaws, like the chaplain bit, deepen our understanding of a unique auteur. (Nor will the average filmmaker ignore the script's corny and manipulative bits because they're somewhat superfluous to the film as it relates to Bigelow's body of work.)
