Good points all around about why this movie really doesn't work, that weird mix of trying to be faithful to everything (I haven't read the book, but the story moves like skimming) while also wedging in some filmmaking intrusions (like the way Jackson seems way more interested in (a.) visualizing the in-between and (b.) dealing with serial-killer stuff than, you know, showing us anything interesting about a grieving family). Good call on The Fall, too -- a lot of the visuals looked like a boring version of that movie.

I'm not sure Tucci can even squeak a nomination out of this -- he's fine, but the movie feels so weirdly negligible and unfocused that I suspect it'll be easy to ignore him while overlooking the whole shebang.
