      <![CDATA[well, yeah.... something about the tone of the video (the traffic jam), and about the faces on the people in it (more bored and frustrated than devastated) I think allows that type of reading, but i don't know if the song itself is necessarily about the type of melodrama you mention. although, i suppose comparing the people of haiti to "everybody" is stupid no matter how you slice it.

the choice of song is terrible...the message I always got from this song was "it's OK to be sad because everybody is sad sometimes; don't kill yourself". Extending that message to the people of Haiti is egregiously condescending, or totally blind to what happened there.
