      <![CDATA[You're right, Ben, it all works quite nicely on paper, but it didn't seem to fit so well together in the film itself as it digressed along. I think you're showing you have a better understanding of the movie than Moverman!<br>
<br>
Also, I don't see how being surprised by a flubbed socioeconomic detail in a film that prides itself (rightly so) on its verisimilitude suddenly makes me a slumdog fetishist.

      <![CDATA[Gosh, Henry, reading your poverty-porn-y comment makes me feel almost as queasy as I did during Precious.<br>

Moving on, I don't agree that the film's various romantic/erotic subplots are inherently incompatible with what you very astutely identified as one of the film's main themes: our fundamental alienation from death, or specifically the sort of death that comes part and parcel with being a nation at war. Morton's character is constantly confronted with this very same alienation.
