      <![CDATA[I have to disagree. The hatred stirred for Franzen comes from vague resentment for what he "represents" beyond the "great american writer" we're told he is. Besides the huffin mungous publicity campaign around him (reviews in all the major publications, even the friggin Financial Times before his book comes out) and what it reveals about the poor integrity of artistic commentary, book reviews, the literary world in general.
