<![CDATA[I feel like "blue collar" is a bit of a misnomer here. Rather (if we're going to allow ourselves to talk in monolithic terms about a Brooklyn craft scene, which we should) I think there's a longing for pre-Industrial Revolution self-sufficiency within a small community—a baker, a butcher, a cobbler, etc. Whatever "blue collar" signifiers that have been adopted over the last decade (trucker hats, etc.) haven't led to any real fetishization of actual blue collar work (you know, factory work, construction, maintenance).

<![CDATA[(Sorry if this posted multiple times) That is a good question. It's hard to say: In areas like Brooklyn, the 'craft' scene as I have observed it seems to share some properties with the archetypical 'artist community'.

<![CDATA[This story absolutely rocks, but I do wonder about the sociology/psychology of what used to be considered "blue collar" jobs now attaining this earthy mystique. Is the attractiveness of a less corporate life a real aesthetic decision on our part or a subconscious reaction to the lack of "white collar" employment.
