      <![CDATA[One of his friends was skeptical that it was worth showing the work of the 80's because although the technical skill was still there, "Bill" wasn't. It got me thinking about what comprises the artist, and what showing work that the artist may not have been in the capacity to evaluate does to his career.

      <![CDATA[I totally agree with your emphasis on the carefulness de Kooning reveals through the compositional choices that frame his seemingly free and immediate gestures. This also brings to mind Tyler Green's recent blog post about the taped off section near the edge of de Kooning's Excavation.
