<![CDATA[fiona apple and her fellow women singer songwriters were my main influence as a young teen, while my classmates thought i was weird for wanting to listen to their often-dark and complex artistry. women's music was actually having its own heyday during that time (lilith fair) but lots of people like you and my classmates ignored it because it was "women's music." i personally feel like this sexism has persisted, with male songwriter acts getting much more attention than women.
