During this time, Gerwig has also continued to take indie jobs: in The Dish and the Spoon, which occasioned her return to South By Southwest last year, she stars as a drikin'-and-drivin'-and-cryin' betrayed wife in retreat to an offseason summer house; she and Dickensian stray (newcomer Olly Alexander), enact a lost-soul bonding routine which gives Gerwig room to tap-dance in an abandoned auditorium and twist around gender dynamics imaginatively.
