Derived from the memoirs of Canadian composer and musicologist Colin McPhee (1900-1964) — whose work on and with the traditional music of Bali was an unprecedented foray into World Music territory for Modern composers — are the raw materials for Evan Ziporyn's new opera, directed by Jay Scheib and with lighting design by L Mag "artist you need to know" Peter Ksander. Live video, a 16-member Balinese gamelan orchestra, and post-minimalist music make for a unique narrative of island life.
