Describing the pieces in his first solo show in New York, Middleman (gold digger and the cosmic connection), the L.A. artist wrote: “They are half New Age ideology and half Miller High Life.” The sculptures, installations and drawings certainly have a pleasantly buzzed Zen-ness, with assemblages of unusual candles–jawbones, kitschy animal statues and rearview mirror dice cast in shiny gold wax–dangling from the walls and sitting atop shipping containers, with illegible blueprint-like works on paper nearby offering few clues to their meaning.
