As that unexpected hurricane approached and petered out last summer, there wasn’t enough time amid hoarding canned goods and imagining exciting escape scenarios to fully express our sadness that one of the very best free events of the year was a casualty to the sideways winds. This year’s returning Afro-Punk Festival keeps a couple of last year’s scheduled acts (be fun to hear new Janelle Monae stuff!) in building a stacked two-day lineup that features Erykah Badu, TV on the Radio, Das Racist, Toro Y Moi, Reggie Watts and many more. And hurricanes never strike twice (saying not applicable in Florida).
