Of all the bands that have broken through in the first 10 months of the year, no one’s risen quite as high as Southern rockers Alabama Shakes. Placing on what seems like every “best in show” list at SXSW to headlining a sold-out hangar in Midtown Manhattan in a matter of months is quite a leap, even for a band that comes with Jack White’s stamp of approval. Brittany Howard's vocals are the star of the show, earthy one moment, pristine the next.
