The Amoralists, a fast-rising Astoria-based company, seems especially concerned with issues of class, family and New York neighborhood identities. Their previous show, Happy in the Poorhouse, concerned a mad-cap Coney Island clan, and their latest absurdist comedy with moments of intense drama involves a family on the brink of meltdown and incarceration in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx. The increasingly unstable head of the family, an otherwise healthy thirty-something businessman named Barry, becomes convinced that he is god and must die in order to return to heaven and save his household.
