An Inconvenient Truth

Directed by Davis Guggenheim

There are times when members of the “reality based” community have reasons to get their hopes up, and this new global warming documentary by Al Gore is one of them. One of the film’s greatest strengths is that it holds back on the vitriol and scathing indictment, even when governmental (and individual) inertia merit it. There is scant proselytizing. The sky may be falling (and the seas rising up to greet it), and you may exit the theater a little shellshocked, but the film is ultimately, refreshingly, a hopeful one.

There is plenty to learn (and some great graphics) for those who have been following global warming closely, and for people new to what is quickly shaping up to be one of the most important issues on the planet. While it is truly only a matter of time before critical mass is reached in America, here’s hoping this powerful little documentary by a reborn former politician can help kindle the fire in the collective American mind.
