Are We Not Much Older Men?

Something For Everybody
Warner Bros.

Recent reunion shows by art-punk legends Devo have been so, soooo good, to the point that a Dinosaur Jr.-like late renaissance of new material didn’t seem so crazy. Oh well. Something For Everybody, their first record in 20 years, does sound remarkably energized. Sadly, it also sounds plastic and overproduced. You almost want to forgive them for already dated touches like chanting “Don’t tase me, bro!”, or trying out auto-tune. These modern nods are often in line with the well-established spazz persona, but the execution is just on the wrong side of embarrassing.
