Five New York-based female artists respond to curator Sasha Okshteyn's theme of feminine essentialism, texturing familiar narratives and imagery of femaleness with their own versions and examinations of gendered identities and iconographies. These include Natsu's breast-like hanging bead sculpture, Alicia Ross's embroidered portraits and Jessica Lagunas's hour-long video performances of beautifying rituals like lash-thickening and lipstick-applying.
