The long, arduous struggle to get a new Portishead record off the ground means that their members must have an overdeveloped sense of patience and a few spare creative projects for the in-between years. Geoff Barrow’s Beak> is probably the most committed of those side acts, now having released two records in three years. Barrow uses it as an outlet for experimenting with krautrock, post-punk and psych strains that might be a touch too wild for his main band’s immaculate gloom.
