Beerfest

Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar

The Broken Lizard comedy troupe aims unapologetically low in their latest flick about thirtysomethings living in a perpetual frat boy haze. Todd and Jan Wolfhouse (Eric Stolhanske and Paul Soter) make it their life's mission to assemble and train an elite team of alcoholics in order to triumph at an underground binge-drinking contest that makes Oktoberfest seem watered down. The team's motivation to out-debauch the competition is predictably asinine but, with a 45 minute set up, unnecessarily drawn out. Beerfest isn't clever enough to sustain laughs and, unlike Broken Lizard's cult hit Super Troopers, just absurd enough to discourage attachment to the characters. There are a few justifiable chuckles sprinkled throughout this sloppy monument to beer, boobs, and burping; however, most viewers will be counting the minutes until they can leave the theater, tap a keg, and get on with their lives.
