In 2012, folk music is hard to do. Even the biggest stalwarts of the genre’s recent past, Sufjan Stevens and Justin Vernon, have succumbed to the temptations of Auto-Tune. But if there are two people doing it right these days, it's Philip Moore and Beth Tacular of Bowerbirds, who wrote their third full-length album, The Clearing, in discovering after a year-long romantic break that they loved one another again. It makes the two finding each other in swelling harmonies and furtive fingerpicking all the more relieving and heart-achy at once. Ok, we're done. Can someone pass the Kleenex?
