Way back in the day, you couldn't read so much as a sentence about Camera Obscura without someone mentioning fellow Scots, Belle & Sebastian. It was understandable, of course: Both bands have a wonderful ear for sad, classic-pop melodies and an undying respect for pop music's rich history. In recent years, though, Camera Obscura have set themselves apart with a move away from the twee sensibilities that characterized their earlier work and toward a meatier, almost rootsy Americana feel. Their steady growth has been a joy to watch.
