What brought you to Brooklyn in the first place?
I moved to NYC after living in LA for a year after finishing school. Brooklyn was cheap and Williamsburg was very cheap. That sounds like it was a long time ago.
What’s the most inspiring or exciting change you’ve witnessed in Brooklyn over the past few years?
It’s nice to see trash get collected now. That’s amazing. But seriously, there can be mixed feelings when an area sees so much transformation and growth, and part of me is sad for things that are gone like the waterfront shantytown. But ultimately it was a shantytown and it wasn’t safe. So, you can’t be sad for something like that going away. Things change fast here, and at this pace just change itself is inspiring more than it is frustrating.
And the most worrisome?
It’s expensive! I can’t believe the real estate value. Or perceived value. Don’t get me wrong at all: the population explosion has been wonderful for business. We could have never grown the way we have as a company without having our original location in Williamsburg amid all this development. But man, property cannot be worth this much.
What now-closed Brooklyn business do you miss the most?
Under what circumstances, if any, would you consider leaving Brooklyn?
Really just to have more space for less money. Pretty much the standard reason I think.
