Dead Man's Bones

Thu., Oct. 15, 7 p.m. 2009; SOLD OUT

The songs were originally intended to soundtrack a stage show about a monster and ghost falling in love; a local children's choir will join them at each stop on tour; they've opted to host an all-ages talent show instead of having an opening band, and they're big fans of Victorian suits. So, yeah, it all sounds a little gimmicky. But truth be told, their blend of gothic doo-wop and swelling, cathartic folk is weird and messy and, at times, really beautiful. Oh, and Ryan Gosling — the guy in The Notebook — he's the lead singer.
