Greenhook Ginsmiths

I had a friend who once told me that his mother could tell what spirit he’d been drinking based on what his skin smelled like after he came home from a long night out. If what he’d been drinking was Greenhook American Dry gin, she probably would’ve leaned in even closer, asking if he’d brought any home for her. Greenhook Ginsmiths, founded and run by Master Distiller Steven DeAngelo, has been open for just over a year. It distills its American Dry gin at a lower temperature than is typically used, a process that better preserves the flavors of the gin’s botanicals, including juniper, of course, chamomile, elderflower, and Ceylon cinnamon, all of which make for a fragrant and lively blend that is assertive enough to use in a mixed drink—particularly a classic gin and tonic—but that is also enjoyable on the rocks with just a squeeze of lime. With summer almost here, we should all plan on spending many nights with this spirit, not putting down the bottle till our skin smells like juniper and flowers, the scent of summer.
