Dustin Wayne Harris: Cake Mixx

Wednesdays-Sundays. Continues through April 18 2010

There are two things in particular that pique our appetite for the Queens-based photographer’s ridiculously, chemically colorful photographs of cakes. Firstly, they’re extremely crisp close-ups of more or less elaborate and often neon-hued cakes, which are sometimes delicious-looking and other times appear grossly fake like they’re made of rubber. Secondly, Harris has a theory about cakes: for a few years he’s asked every woman he’s dated to bake him a cake after their first date and at regular intervals thereafter, and has found that he can read the course of their relationship in these layers, icings and candles of these sugary treats.
