It seems that a lot of people failed to keep up with Eels after main main Mark Oliver Everett started putting out what seemed like a record every month, but, damn, if that first three-album suite of his — Beautiful Freak, Electro-Shock Blues and Daisies of the Galaxy — didn't contain some of the most nightmarish, saddest and heartwarming songs we heard during our high school years, then we don't know what did. He pretty much put emo to shame.
