Elliott Hundley: Agave of the Bacchae

Tuesdays-Saturdays. Continues through May 1 2010

Though you’re liable to find us deriding the recent trend towards assemblage art in many situations, an exhibition of Elliott Hundley’s work is not one of them. His sprawling abstract expressionist paintings are beautifully busy, but we’re especially fond of the amazing sculptures that he crafts out of found objects including ceramic scraps, magnifying glass lenses, parts of bar stools, paper cut-outs, wire, string, wood, trash and more. At once monumental, and exquisitely subtle and fragile, the strange works hang and float as if weightlessly, casting bizarre shadows and suggesting unreadable ritualistic purposes.
