I usually wear clothes when I go out drinking. But I generally don’t buy them in bars. Peddling both fashion and booze might seem like an odd business plan, but Alphabet City’s new bar-cum-men’s boutique, Elsa — named for 1930s fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli — boasts a fully operational tailor up front and a well in the back. Together, they’re a Jekyll and Hyde concept suffering slightly from lack of identity, and I’d rather the extra space be used to house a few more beer selections. Consider losing the tailor — or moving it to a backroom somewhere. Because I just can’t imagine standing in the front of a bar while a dude measures my inseam. --Bret Stetka
