Eternal Summers: Silver

ETERNAL SUMMERS
SILVER

Before we delve into the debut album from the likely frontrunner for best lo-fi drum-guitar team in all of Virginia, can we take a moment to reflect on how good their song "Pogo" is? The way the drums bounce along, coming so close to cutting loose, as singer Nicole Yun sweetly rhymes "fool" and "cool." It’s a testament to the versatility of the classic drum-guitar pairing and to Eternal Summers’ ability to take advantage of it, not only in comparison to a band like No Age, but within their own material. Silver is refreshingly eclectic, saddling timeless jams like "Pogo" next to a paling goth-like number. If there’s one overwhelming tone, it’s best captured on the Galaxie 500-evoking "Safe at Home," which sounds like something they play at senior prom, at least in the movies.
