At the outset of their latest project Sussman and collaborators Claudia de Serpa Soares and Jeff Wood took up Kazimir Malevich’s claim to being “the chairman of space” by trying to gain access to the central launching site of Russia’s space program, the Bailkonur Cosmodrome. Detained, interrogated, searched and sent on their way via train to the Caspian sea, the trio’s journey resulted in White on White, a journey-as-artwork in which the artists perform in their own improvised film noir documentary TV pilot.
