The Brooklyn-based L.A. native's mid-career survey shows everything from the early-90s — when he started embedding pills and marijuana leaves in layered resin — through more recent, figurative and painterly large-scale works in that trademark style, and new pieces on paper. During a recent visit to his Williamsburg studio he told us: "I like to keep people wondering what's an image, what's an object, and what's painted until they get right up close to the work." So don't be afraid of the seven-foot owl; get all up in its plumage.
