According to Charles L. Mee’s web site, where all 50-something of the plays he’s written over the last 25 years are available for free, Fêtes de Nuit (which has its New York premiere after first playing at Berkeley Rep in 2005), follows in the tradition of the spectacular parties of fireworks, music and dance that Louis XIV threw at Versailles. Here, the party takes place in a sidewalk café in 21st century Paris, and includes video, tango, nudity and sign language (by the production’s three deaf actors). In case you need more incentive, the opening line of Mee’s script: “Juliette Binoche narrates in French gobbledygook.”
