A few years back, there was talk of Baltimore's DIY scene giving Brooklyn a run for its money. Maybe that argument has lost ground recently, but Baltimore's Future Islands remain a force to be reckon with: noir-ish post-new wave, but with a penchant for high-drama vocals akin to Antony and Carey Mercer. It shouldn't sound nearly as good as it does.
